Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Claws of Awaji DLC Review – A Major Disappointment
Assassin’s Creed Shadows – Claws of Awaji DLC Review: 50 Hours I’ll Never Get Back
When Assassin's Creed Shadows was released, the biggest criticism from reviewers like me was that the story of this game is left incomplete because it was supposed to be continued in the clauses of Abaji DLC.
So we all were waiting for its release and now it has been released and I have played it — and to be honest brother, I regret why I played it. Even because of the clause of the bet, I regret the 50 plus hours I spent on Assassin's Creed Shadows.
I will tell you everything but first of all I am extremely sorry that Ghost of You has been released and I have to talk about Assassin Shadows.Actually, for some reason this time we did not get the review code of Ghost of UE like others. So I ordered it and it came on the release date — brother, it came today only.
Secondly, I got the Clause of Awaji even before its release, thanks to Yusuf. But I don't know why it was not being played. Like, its gameplay becomes so repetitive that I did not feel like completing it.
Well, I will talk about that. I will not keep the video too long. Just watch till the end. Who knows brother, you might save 50 hours in 5 minutes.
Story and Setting
So look, the setting and story directly continue after the last game.A guy comes to our hideout, and through him we come to know about Abaji Island. This island is very beautiful and offers amazing scenery — at least the art teams are good in Ubisoft.
Now a new villain has arrived here. We also get to know Suyu, who is in the custody of his friend Naoe. So we set out to defeat this new villain on Abaji Island. But keep in mind that even though we have the best armor and tools now, we are not hunters on this island — we are the victims.
Everyone is after our lives. That’s why traps, random attacks, everything keeps happening in between.
Gameplay and Structure
Now friend, I will not tell you much about the story, but know that it is very boring. Same structure with bosses — where you kill mini bosses, complete all the targets, and then the next story segment will be unlocked.
Even in that, the entire 10 hours of gameplay mostly consists of boss fights. There are no specific story segments, and the ones that exist are pale and soulless.
No emotional connection is formed. Even I would say that the story of the main game Shadows was better than Awaji.
Combat and Weapons
The rewards come from combat, so it’s a good addition that Bostuff has been added.
This is a new weapon that she can learn and use against enemies. It has its own skill tree and even special move sets.
Although I would also say that it is quite overpowered in some situations — because a boss whose armor breaks after five-six combos with a normal weapon breaks in just two hits with this.
But no problem, it is a small tactical weapon, so it can be used like that. Still, it’s a nice addition to the DLC.Apart from this, the combat is mostly the same. It feels a bit unpolished anyway.
In fact, I also found a bug where my attack button randomly wouldn't work while fighting. I kept clicking and it stopped working for a few seconds — very frustrating because brother, you die from enemies in that time.
Missions and Quests
When I come to the quest, it also has the same structure as the main game.First, there are one or two introductory missions. After that, a list is given — these are 10-1 targets, kill them as you wish.
So it becomes very boring brother, keep doing the same type of assassinations again and again.
But yes, the main boss fight that comes after this is still okay. There is a main boss who snipes from a distance — that particular fight is quite interesting.
I think it is the most unique in the entire game. It doesn’t take much time either, and it actually makes you use your brain.
Some people were saying that it might be inspired by Metal Gear Solid 3, but to be honest I haven’t played that game yet. So I’ll only know once I play it.
Unique Moments
Apart from this, there is also a quest in the beginning where the game becomes two-dimensional — just like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
That is also interesting — at least I got to do something different.
Boss Fights and Difficulty
Apart from this, there is a fight with Tommy Ji, and to be honest, in this fight I felt like breaking the controller and mouse.Because TommyG is such an overpowered boss that he can take out 80% of your health in one hit.
Even in a few hits, he kills you without touching you — only the wind of his weapon should be felt.In that fight, you don't get any consumables either.
Now look, there’s no problem with difficulty, but fighting with this guy feels like he’s cheating. It was deliberately made so difficult to increase play time.
This game is not like Souls that such fights should be included. The character dies in one hit even with full health. After trying for two-three days, I reduced the difficulty level and ended it because brother, I was frustrated.
What’s the point of mastering a broken game?
Final Thoughts
And to be honest, I am frustrated after playing this entire DLC.Look, I am not so critical about any game, but Claws of Awaji was a waste of time for me.Because once you start it, you have to finish it to know the whole story. And after that, you realize it wasn’t worth it at all.First of all, it should not have been separate — it should have been part of the main game.
Secondly, its story and ending are so unsatisfactory that they do not justify the emotional backdrop set up in the main game. The ending seems very cheap and dull. You don’t even get to know much about Assassin vs. Templars, or even the help of the boat.
It doesn’t even have proper motion capture.
Character and Story Weakness
And I didn’t talk about Yaske even once in the video because he is a non-existent character. You can play as him, do missions accordingly, but he has no contribution to the story.
That’s why now the question arises — why was Yaske kept playable when his significance was so low?Even after playing this DLC, the entire game seems like a waste of time.
Because friend, I invested so much time in the game for the story and ending — and I got nothing.
Verdict
So to be honest, Claws of Awaji isn’t worth it.Now I cannot recommend this entire game with the DLC package to anyone.I gave the game an 8 out of 10 in my review, but after playing this DLC, that rating seems too high. And for all these reasons, I give Claws of Awaji DLC a 5 out of 10.
It is not worth the time. If I had received the review code, I probably wouldn't have even completed this DLC.So this was my review of Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Claws of Awaji.
